Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in Natural Resources
Jobs in natural resources are competitive and early-career permanent positions are scarce. Other barriers to the field include low pay, remote settings away from friends and family, and non-inclusive work environments. These challenges are amplified for underrepresented groups. I am proud to be a woman in STEM and a woman in wildlife, and I will continue to advocate for diversity and inclusion in natural resources. Small steps we, as graduate students, can take to promote DEI are advocating for fair pay and reasonable accommodations for technicians, sharing resources to those who may not be aware of them, and offering mentorship and guidance to undergraduate students.
